Presenting data in a visual form is part of an exploratory approach to data mining.

People are extremely good at detecting patterns in visual information, and data visualization is a key step in any data mining process.

Seeing the data allows the data miner to spot patterns and anomolies, and to ensure that errors or biases in the data are accounted for.
